This lovely SL500 has been in the hands of one lady owner since it was a year old. It has covered 114k miles from new backed up by a Full Mercedes-Benz Service History.
First registered in December 1996, this is a desirable ’96-98 car that used the earlier, more powerful M119 V8 combined with the later electronically controlled five-speed automatic. This revision in late ’96 also introduced an improved climate control system and, importantly, revised wiring harnesses that do not suffer the issues of previous years.
Finished in Brilliant Silver with navy blue leather interior and a matching navy hood, this SL500 is equipped with a half-walnut steering wheel, electric/ memory front seats, rear seats and climate control. The full specification is listed below.
The car has all original books and manuals, two remote keys and a Full Mercedes Service History. There are fifteen stamps stamps in the service book, fourteen from the supplying dealer, Speeds of Stratford-upon-Avon, and the last is ourselves. We have just carried out a major service, plus a transmission fluid and filter, differential oil and brake fluid change, plus and service of the air conditioning.
The SL is in superb condition throughout and completely original right down to its Blaupunkt stereo. The bodywork is lovely, the wheels are unmarked, the hood excellent and has been recently fitted with new windows by the best people in the UK. The interior is in excellent order and still retains the original ribbed over-mats.
On the road this SL performs beautifully with oodles of performance, smooth ride and all the attributes that make the SL500 one of the best open GT cars. Everything works as intended and we have found it a real pleasure to drive.
In summary, this is a superb example for some one who’s looking for an eight-cylinder SL in excellent condition for regular use. With largely one owner and a full history its provenance is as nice as its condition. And having just had a major service/ refresh by ourselves, it now only needs a new owner to enjoy this fabulous car.
