Ford Capri 2. 8i – Very Original/ 5 Speed Gearbox
The 2. 8i breathed new life into flagging sales delivering a 0 to 60 time of just under 8 seconds and a top speed of 130mph. Today the Capri is an iconic rear wheel drive sports coupe and the Ford sales line used in 1983 “The car that you always promised yourself” is as true now as it was then.
Our Caspian Blue/ Strato Silver Capri is a local car that we simply could not resist when offered to us. The car received a high quality respray 20 years ago and was placed into long-term storage. Liberated in 2011 the car went through a thorough re-commissioning programme at Lavant Car & Track in 2011
Work included:
· Front floor pans
· New carpets, front seats, seatbelts, door cards/ kick panels, centre console, boot trim and heater fan motor
· New fuel pump & filters
· Replacement exhaust manifolds
· Rear axle stripped (new crown wheel/ pinion),
· Gearbox removed/ replaced with 5 speed unit
· Rear brakes stripped, new wheel cylinders, front brakes overhauled and system flushed.
· All lights checked/ replaced as required
Since the recommissioning the engine has been overhauled (valves and Piper camshafts) the bumpers have been removed/ repainted, new clutch, new fuel distributor, high power cooling fan & radiator, rear springs & shocks, front coil springs, anti-dive kit, front brakes callipers/ pads/ hoses, wheel bearings, water pump…the list goes on.
With well sorted mechanicals the car looks as good as it drives with excellent paint & panel fit, absolutely no corrosion issues and a very good original specification interior.
