Escort Super Speed – The Ultimate Mk1 Escort
Back in 1970 if you wanted a quick Escort you would have bought the twin-cam good for 0-60mph in just under 10 seconds and the standard quarter mile in around 17. 5. BUT, if you wanted to go really quickly you would take a trip to SuperSpeed in Ilford to purchase one of their bespoke V6 Escorts.
SuperSpeed Conversions were a London based company run by brothers John and Mike Young, sons of Ford main agent Mike Young of Young’s Garage. New Twin Cam’s were driven out of their fathers showroom, modified in house to SuperSpeed specification and then sold on through the dealership as a new car complete with Ford Warranty. They brothers prepared cars for various racing teams as well as the general public and quickly gained an enviable reputation for producing fast, reliable cars that were a drivers dream…..
Our Escort is one of approximately three SuperSpeed Mk1’s that remain in existence and has been the subject of magazine features in Fast Ford and Classic & Sports Car magazines. A nut and bolt 10 year rebuild was completed in 2000 by the owner, Ian Ford, and today the car remains in show condition - a real testament to his skill and knowledge.

On the road the car is a revelation (0-60mph in 7. 5 seconds, standing quarter mile in around 15. 6 seconds and top speed just shy of 130mph)). Power is delivered in a huge wave of torque, the uprated suspension keeps everything in a straight line and the exhaust note is addictive.
The car comes with a huge history file including photographs of the restoration, old MOT’s, invoices and copies of various magazine articles that feature the car
Today the SuperSpeed is one of the rarest and most desirable Fast Ford’s that you could wish to own and we recommend early viewing in order to fully appreciate this remarkable car.
