Ford Popular 103e – Stunning Car/ Original Reg
When production of the older Ford Anglia and Ford Prefect ceased in 1953 the Popular was developed by Ford as a budget alternative. The ‘pop’ was the cheapest new car available to the British public and sales were strong. The basic saloon had the 1172cc side-valve engine, three speed gear-box, single vacuum-powered wiper, no heater, vinyl trim, minimal chrome and the Bakelite dash of the Anglia was replaced by a flat steel panel.
Once an everyday sight our 1956 example is a remarkable survivor that has been maintained to show condition by a series of super fastidious previous owners. The body work is lovely, in ubiquitous Ford black, and the interior is very good including recent red interior seats/ door cards and the roof lining is free of rips/ stains.
Structurally the car is remarkable with no corrosion and mechanically the car runs and drives extremely well with recent expenditure including fuel pump, radiator, starter switch, battery. The car still carries her original Essex registration and the history file includes original buff log book, old MOT’s numerous invoices for parts and information from the Ford Side Owners Club (the car has been registered with the Club since 1993).
