Ford Escort Mk2 1600 Sport – Restored Car
The squarer-styled Mark 2 Escort appeared in January 1975. The L/ GL/ Ghia models were the mainstream of production while the Sport, RS Mexico, and RS2000 were aimed at the performance market and proved an instant success. Today the classic styling, entertaining handling and Fast Ford history have led to a sharp rise in values with good examples being snapped up by a new generation of classic car enthusiasts.
The original sales invoice indicates that on 1st August 1975 Mr E W Mann traded in his Ford Cortina Mk3 GXL at Truro Garages, Penzance for a brand new Ford Escort 1600 Sport finished in stunning Daytona Yellow. The Escort was the everyday family transport until 1993 when she was put into storage.
In 2015 the Escort came out of hibernation and a two year restoration process commenced. The shell was stripped/ metal replaced as required, mechanical components inspected/ refurbished (Including a full engine rebuild) and the original interior was retained where possible - hundreds of hours were spent bringing this Escort Sport back to life.
Today the car is a real testament to skill and commitment of the owner. On the road the car drives well – the willing Kent engine and smooth gearbox make the car a delight to drive and the Daytona Yellow complements the car perfectly.
The large history file indicates just three owners and contains original sales invoice, plus sales literature/ price list and around 200 pictures & all invoices from the restoration.
Driving this 1600 Sport is huge fun and takes you straight back to 1975! With super sharp steering/ gear box/ engine it is easy to see why the Mk2 Escort remains popular today and we expect this lovely car to find an appreciative keeper very quickly.
