Land Rover S1 80inch – Show Standard
The Land Rover was launched in 1948 at the Amsterdam Motor Show. Initially there was a single model utilising an 80-inch wheelbase & 1. 6-litre petrol engine producing around 50bhp, the rest is history! The vehicle was an immediate success that was exported around the world and in production for the next 68 years
Built on 8th August ’51 and despatched to Champion Motors Singapore our Series 1 passed into Army service shortly afterwards (No: 41 ZC 98). Twenty two years later and back in the UK she was released by the Army in 1973. The new owner, a haulier, placed the Land Rover in storage until 2004 when his company undertook a full restoration in their workshops finally registering her in the UK for the first time on 1st May 2004.
During this restoration the car received many hours of work. She has an excellent chassis & bulk head, strong mechanicals (one of the benefits of buying ex-military is that the cars are always in exemplary condition) and the interior trim/ canvas tilt were all replaced
The second/ last owner purchased the car in 2012 and has spent a good deal of time and money (in excess of £6, 000) detailing the car and bringing her up to show standard – right down to the semaphore indicators…..
On the road this stunning S1 drives as good as she looks benefiting from recent tyres, steering overhaul, radiator/ hoses, brake & carb overhaul, ignition components and always draws positive comments wherever you go
We have a real soft spot for early Land Rovers and this is the nicest we have seen for some time. At home in the country, around town, on the beach, at the pub there is nothing like a Series 1…they simply become part of the family.
