Built from 1959-1967, the third generation of the Anglia – the 106E for export markets with left-hand drive – had a distinctive feature previously seen on several American cars and which was later adopted by the Citroën Ami 6: a reverse-rake rear window, which made it possible to combine a large boot opening and generous headroom in the rear. A selling point to explain this choice was that the rear screen also stayed clean when it rained!
First registered in June 1965, this Ford Anglia has been in its current ownership since June 2006. A particularly appealing car, it received a good-quality restoration in the past and was extensively fitted out for motorsport. In particular, it is equipped with a strut brace, an electronic Tripmaster, a full bolted roll cage from Safety Devices, two Sparco bucket seats, Cibié long-range driving lights, a map-reading light and a cut-out switch. It is in astoundingly good condition and is a delight to drive. When we tested it on the streets of Paris, it has to be said that its appearance and turn of speed attracted plenty of friendly looks and countless thumbs-up as went past! Even with a modest budget, you can dream of the starting grid at the St Mary’s Trophy during the Goodwood Revival or the races in the ‘Trophée Maxi 1000’. An ideal car in which to take part in historic rallies or meetings like the ‘Journées d’Automne’, this is the ‘pocket rocket’ you need.
Please note that due to an administrative error, the French registration papers show the type number as BB2265 instead of BB22EJ.
