This absolutely immaculate R129 500SL is finished in Almandine Red metallic with a black fabric roof and contrasted by a Mushroom leather interior. It has covered just 92k miles backed up by a detailed and complete service history. Previously supplied by ourselves and prior to that in the hands of one keeper for 19 years.
Despite being registered in March ’93 by Isaac Agnew MB in Belfast, this 500SL was a late registration and is a ‘066’ chassis car (the first generation) with Bosch KE Jetronic injection built in 1992. The advantage being that it does not have the wiring harness issues that afflict the ’93-’96 SLs.
The specification on this 500 is particularly good, featuring automatic climate control, memory seats, rear seats, sports steering wheel amongst the full list detailed below.
In 1998 this SL was sold (for £44k) by Mercedes main agent, Malaya of Bromley, under their approved used car scheme to a gentleman who kept the car for 19 years, correctly maintaining it without regard to expense.
Evidence of the care this car has received is in abundance in the huge history folder that comes with this car. The service book contains 17 stamps – last service by John Haynes at 91k miles in 2018 – and in addition to this there is a folder containing a vast folder of paperwork containing everything from bills of sale, previous MoTs and all bills for all servicing and repairs to ensure the car remained in excellent order. These bills, in recent years, include replacement of the AC evaporator, replacing the transmission fluid and filter, diff oil, brake pipes and four matching Dunlop tyres.
All original books and manuals come with the car along with three remote keys. HPI clear with certificate. The original factory hardtop is with the car too.
As the photographs clearly show, this 500SL is in immaculate condition throughout. Perfect paintwork, unmarked wheels, Mayala dealer plates front and rear plus window sticker, and an exceptional interior with no signs of wear.
Drives beautifully with prodigious power and cossetting refinement.
These early R129s are very much in favour with purists who adore the early looks with orange indicators. They are certainly the best built and are best sampled in full fat 500 form.
