A quite unrepeatable opportunity to buy a completely original, unrestored, UK-supplied, right-hand drive W110 190c.
The W110 190 range was Mercedes’ entry level into the ‘fintail’ range, identifiable by its single round headlamps and powered by either a 1. 9-litre four-cylinder petrol or a diesel. The model was launched in 1961 and 130, 554 petrol versions were built worldwide compared with nearly twice as many diesels.
While Mercedes’ mid-sized saloon was a popular model worldwide, few were sold in the UK as they were very expensive compared with the home-grown opposition. Of course very few survive after over 50 years.
So this 190c, first registered in 1964, is an incredible survivor. Finished in Light Blue with grey vinyl interior and dealer fitted from new with a full length Webasto roof.
Three owners from new – first owner kept the car for decades, always stored inside, then briefly with the second owner before passing to a friend of his, the last owner, who had the car for 13 years. It has never before been on the open market.
As the photos show this W110 is in quite amazing condition throughout. It has never been apart, never been repainted and never been welded. All the body, interior and mechanicals are all original, as assembled by Mercedes in 1964.
The underside was evidently rustproofed early in the car’s life and the car evidently always kept inside. As a result, the underside and body are in superb, rust-free condition. All the brightwork is original and excellent.
The interior is superb and untouched with a period Becker radio and cooling fan.
There is a large history file together with its original books and manuals.
On the road it is a delight with ample performance, the four-speed column-shift gearbox snicks quickly into the gears and is a joy to use. The oil pressure and temperature readings are as they should be and the car easily keeps up with modern traffic.
Right-hand drive Fintails in beautifully preserved, original condition are nigh on impossible to source and, in our opinion, infinitely preferable to a restored car. A dream find for a collector of Mercedes from this era.
