The squarer-styled Mark 2 Escort appeared in January 1975. The L/ GL/ Ghia models were the mainstream of production while the Sport, RS Mexico, and RS2000 were aimed at the performance market and proved an instant success.
Today the classic styling, entertaining handling and Fast Ford history has resulted in the prices of RS2000’s going stratospheric. Fortunately history is repeating itself and a new generation of enthusiasts are producing personaly customised Escorts that keep the tradition of “Built not Bought” alive……
In 2009, following a long search, a Ford enthusiast in Essex final tracked down the one owner, corrosion free, low mileage Mk2 Escort 1300GL to create the car of his dreams. The plan was to build a discrete fast road car that would recapture the fun of his youth and the final result is a real credit to him.

Data from the rolling road test indicates 110bhp @ 5, 322rpm and maximum torque 126lb-ft @ 2814rpm – but that is only half the story. The driving experience is utterly engaging – from a personal perspective I have enjoyed driving this Escort more than the RS2000 we took through Milestones earlier this year…the five speed gearbox makes this drive like a modern car.
The body work is extremely straight with just slight blemishes commensurate with age and usage. The original brown interior is utterly 1980 and carpets, roof lining & dashboard are all good. The large history file has invoices back to 1984, original handbook, service book (15 stamps) and MOT’s back to 1992
Driving this Escort is huge fun and takes you straight back to the 1980’s. With super sharp steering/ gear box/ engine it is easy to see why the Mk2 Escort remains popular today and we expect this very special example to find an appreciative keeper very quickly.
