SUMMARY
Supplied by Road Range, Liverpool and still carrying their window sticker and number plates, this very late W201 190E was purchased by its only owner as a “present to himself” and was solely used throughout his quarter of century tenure for high days and holidays, and was religiously garaged when not in use. As such, the vehicle has only covered a well below average 41, 000 miles, and is in incredible condition.
The owner sadly passed away in 2018, and the car passed to his daughter through probate, and eventually found its way to me a few months later. As the usage of car had dwindled to virtually nothing in the gentleman’s latter years, it was deemed advisable to give the vehicle a major service including changing all the vehicles fluid, included; Engine Oil/ Filter, Coolant, Gearbox fluid & filter, power steering fluid and filter, differential oil, and Five new quality tyres were fitted too as the originals had cracked. Given the condition of the car, it only felt right to refurbish the wheels too, and replace any scuffed wheel trims.
The bodywork of the car is superb, and I’m fairly sure it’s never had any paint, which is quite incredible for a vehicle of this age. The Midnight Blue paintwork still has that “factory lustre” to it, whilst the Mushroom Check Cloth interior is just like new, and reflects the esteem in which this car was held. Everything is exactly how Mercedes intended, with no aftermarket alarms or radios having been fitted, it’s simply incredible and still even has that new smell about it. First Aid Kit, Jack, Warning Triangle are all present, and the tool roll remains unopened.
As with all W201’s specification is interesting in that it has an electric sunroof , automatic transmission, front armrest and yet it has wind-up windows, which are quite a novelty in these days of almost default electric windows. More importantly, everything it has works exactly as it should.
If you’re looking for one of the best 190E’s out there, this has got to be a serious contender. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s the 1. 8 litre variant; in my experience (I’ve had over 135 W201’s of all models pass through my hands at the last count) in day to day driving most people can’t differentiate between the 1. 8 litre and 2. 0 litre.
MTSV CLASSIC MERCEDES
MTSV (an abbreviation for Mark Taylor Specialist Vehicles) was born out an incurable and lifelong obsession for anything with four wheels on it, especially those carrying the legendary Three Pointed Star. Established by me, Mark Taylor in November 2005 when the Classic Car market was in its infancy and long before “everyman and his dog” had jumped on the Classic Car bandwagon. My main specialisation is the legendary Mercedes W201 190 and Mercedes W124; I firmly believe these models were about as good as cars got in terms of sheer, teutonic quality, and believe them to be the best cars Mercedes have ever made. I’ve built up a substantial knowledge of both the W201 190 & W124 over many years, which I’m always happy to share, and have recently contributed to a W201 buying guide written by Julian Parish. I also have extensive experience of the most of the Mercedes models within my “band of interest” namely the W116, W123, W202 & W203 C-Class, W208 & W209 CLK, W210 & W211 E-Class, W126 & W140 S-Class, R170 & R171 SLK and the R129 SL-Class. Obviously as time goes on later models are coming onto my radar too.
MTSV has always, and will always focus on quality rather than quantity, and in doing so has earned, and continues to maintain an enviable reputation among its many customers both in the UK and abroad, many who are now three, four and even five times repeat customers, some of which have become good friends too. I’m also listed in the Mercedes Club Directory as a recommended business and I’ve also had several of my rarer cars featured in the motoring press too.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don't just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won't notice…I just couldn't do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
