Description
1965 Brabham BT14 fitted with a 1498cc Ford twim cam.
It is believed that this car was exported to France and raced by Pierre Bardinon in 1965 and then by the Mas du Clos racing team the following year. There is continuous history from 1980 when the car was owned by Robert Jean Sauvage and repatriated to the UK by David Newton in 2000 who then raced it with the HSCC for several years. It was subsequently bought by myself in 2009.
It is believed that in 1966 this car was raced as an F3 car and as such could now be fitted with a side draft 1000cc motor or since there were two BT14s that ran in F1 in period it could also be used for that purpose but would need to be fitted with more narrow period wheels and tyres. It did run in Europe to this specification in the late 1980s which is why it still has a 1500cc Ford TC fitted. This engine was built by Paul Gardner and has dyno sheets showing 178BHP at 7300 rpm. It always starts first time and is very tractable to drive.
In my ownership the car has been to Retro Track and Air, whose reputation is second to none, and undergone a comprehensive rebuild with all new suspension, repairs where necessary and full powder coating of the chassis. Bespoke Koni shock absorbers were made for the car as well as the alloy radiator. It sits on 8 and 10 inch replica Brabham wheels fitted with Avon Tyres to suit the HSCC Classic Racing Car Championship.
There is a selection of gear and final drive ratios that accompany the car.
Belts and fire extinguisher are both in date, belts valid to 2024.
The car has been raced three times since all this work was carried out and is race ready.
FIA tax is paid in that it has fresh HTP papers valid until end of 2029. There are previous FIA papers issued in Belgium but now out of date as well as HSCC documentation.
This car is a joy to drive and very easy to run without the need of a backup team. It is only for sale as I am just too old!
