Well, here is a truly wonderful 1964 Ford Cortina Mark 1 1500 deluxe estate. One of the very first "airflow" models with the two big switches under the dash to open dashboard air vents left and right! Now fully restored after two years of loving work and finished to show standard. You will struggle to find a nicer Mark 1 estate than this!
There's stacks of history with this delightful old girl and I will tell you what I know of her. As I say, a very early airflow model but a crossover model which makes her all the more interesting in my opinion. By that I mean she got the facelifted dash with the two clocks in front of the driver and the speedo calibrated to 110 mph, being a 1500 deluxe. But she kept the earlier style bench seat and column change. She is, by the way, absolutely stunning to drive with a very precise gear change.
She remained with the same family from new until 2009 (45 years) when she was sold to a chap whose intention it was to restore her to her former glory. He dry stored her, never got round to anything and then sold her two years ago in 2017. Owner number three - the chap from whom I acquired it - then spent the next couple of years gutting her and bringing her up to the stunning standard that we see before us today.
He stripped her back to the bare shell and replaced the head. Obviously she now runs on unleaded. He managed to source three new (old stock) doors as well as a new bonnet. Only the driver's door is the original. Front wings were repaired with metal where necessary. Naturally, the entire braking system was rebuilt as was the gearbox. Chrome work was replaced and hence it is all superb now. Then he added a new clutch and more. Headlining, door rubbers etc. The list goes on.
Her two-tone blue seats are the original as is the blue dashboard and steering wheel. He then painted the car, including the engine bay, and now you see the result. She has covered just 53, 000 miles and drives like a 5, 000 mile car. Lift the light blue fitted rubber mats (correct spec) and the floor pans are in outstanding condition. Actually, so are the rubber mats! Her engine bay is to show standard.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a rare Mark 1 1500 estate. The eagle-eyed amongst you will note the "deluxe" style chrome radiator. Difficult to better in my view and a must for next year's shows. Be quick.
She is not a new car, nor is she a three-year-old used car. She is a piece of antique motoring history and, as such will have quirks and maybe even the odd fault. Anyway, she is what she is. These old gems - in this case 55-years-old are sold as seen. Should you buy without viewing, then she is sold on the basis of the advertisement you have read the photos, or extra photos, you have seen as well with the assistance of any answers to questions you have received from me. Treat these classics with the respect they deserve and make sure they have love, time and effort lavished on them. Even the very best need permanent on going care. Practically all will have undergone a degree of restoration work or improvement at some stage. If it's a three-year-old car dating from the 1960s that you are after, then you are out of luck. Short of acquiring a Tardis that is.
Anyway, thanks for reading. I am here to answer any questions you may have and, remember, that I also provide a delivery service. Martin the details below)
