Descripción
Up for sale is RMC1486 (chassis number RMC1500. Currently privately owned and in preservation, whilst in the care of Ward Jones Commercials, High Wycombe. Vehicle is also currently being sold by Ward Jones Commercials on behalf of the current owner. A reluctant sale as the owner only wishes to sell the bus due to personal health.
RMC1486 has been in preservation since 1998, whilst the current owner acquired the bus in 2013. 1486 is in excellent cosmetic and mechanic condition having been well looked in recent years. The bus currently has a class 6 MOT, despite being in preservation although there is no tachograph fitted (tacho exempt) and the bus is still on the historic vehicle taxation class.
This vehicle is actually chassis number RMC1500 despite being badged as RMC1486. The registration plate 486 CLT was transferred from the real RMC1486 in the early 90's and later fitted to RMC1500 in 1994, following unsuccessful attempts to retrieve the original registration plate for RMC1500. An RMC in this current is a rare find, particularly as there are believed to be less than 20 of the original 68 RMC vehicle's left (even fewer in preservation). For those that don't know, RMC's are the 'coach' version of the Routemaster. These buses have subtle differences from the common RM such as deeper seats, duel headlights and lower seating capacity. The main difference is that enclosed platform with electric doors (operated from the cab). The addition of the doors made the vehicle much more comfortable for longer distance journeys.
The vehicle was last repainted in January 2008 and the paint is still in excellent condition. The current livery was carried by RMC1500 between 1971 - 1973 whilst operating with London Country (we can arrange for the bus to be re-painted at 6k+VAT, should a potential buyer wish for a Red Routemaster'). The interior is also in excellent condition and is leak free. The seats have been re-trimmed in recent years and the rear door operates well. The AEC 590 engine is very healthy mechanically. She starts straight away and revs very well. The bus drives beautifully due to significant ongoing investment by the current owner. It is however worth noting that the original mid-range diff is no longer present in the bus. Notable recent work completed on the bus includes:
- Current class 6 MOT test (expires early July 2020)
- All oils changed in 2018
- Re-con b-frames & new b-frame pads/ bolts fitted in 2018
- Re-con fuel tank fitted in 2018
- Re-con lift pump fitted in 2018
- 2x new front tyres (radial) fitted in 2018 (rear tyres still in good condition)
- New exhaust silencer fitted in 2018
- 2x re-con brake wheel cylinders fitted to rear in 2018
- All rear hub oil seals change in 2018
- New batteries fitted in recent years - starts everytime
- Newly manufactured rear wheel 'dust bin lid' covers & brackets (not currently fitted to the bus but shown in the photographs).
Amongst a lot of other work carried out since 2013.
