History of this car

This delightful Zagato, an early chassis no. 257 was supplied new in Italy in 1970; being an early car, it has the aluminium doors and bonnet.

These haute couture cars were exclusive (1108 made), costing new as much as a GTA. Their light weight (920kgs), aerodynamic shape and more rigid chassis also makes them amongst the very best driving 105 series models, particularly so in this example as it has received an in period upgrade to the desirable 1750cc motor.

Chassis 257 found its way to Holland in 1976 where it remained until imported by us into the UK recently. Our car had the one Dutch owner from 1982-2019 and formed part of an important collection of Italian cars.

This Zagato is supplied UK registered with an age related registration.

Body

These Junior Z cars are based on the Spider junior chassis and the bodies were made and painted at the Zagato factory of Terrazzano di Rho. Our car is finished in classic Alfa red, and we believe this to be the car’s original colour.

All panels open and shut easily including the rear hatch which opens electrically for ventilation on the move. The paintwork has been renewed some years ago and presents strongly today, with only a few very minor imperfections. The glass is good and the vertical asymmetric perspex grille, a trademark of the Junior Z, is in perfect condition complete with its Zagato branding. Our car has had Dinitrol cavity rust proofing performed.

As a finishing touch, our Junior Z has just been fitted with a new set of GTA style replica wheels.

Mechanics

Our car is in very good mechanical shape and boasts a 1750cc engine upgrade, with a documented rebuild of the motor 5000klms ago. It is really quite fast – certainly much more so than the standard engined Junior Z. The transmission has none of the usual faults and the braking system has been recently rebuilt.

The under bonnet presents beautifully and is well detailed, oils and filters have just been changed and four new Pirelli Cinturato tyres have been fitted.

Advisory free MOT until October 2020.

Interior

This purposeful cabin has recently been refreshed with new carpeting. The seats – unique to this model – have been partially retrimmed with corduroy inserts, to mimic competition Ferraris of the period. A rather nice leather rimmed Nardi sports steering wheel is also fitted.

Summary

If the idea of a unique and fast Zagato appeals, this is your car!
