SUMMARY
This is an absolutely stunning and beautiful example of what is now being increasingly regarded as the best ever incarnation of the S-Class. The level of engineering and attention to detail is simply staggering, and testament to this, 39 years on, everything still works exactly as it should!. The W126 is now rightly regarded by many as being far technically superior to a Rolls Royce or Bentley of the same era.
Supplied by Whitestone Mercedes of Douglas Road, Ballasalla (Isle of Man) on 27th October 1981, this W126 500SEL was an extremely well specified example, and would have cost an absolute fortune when new, and probably more than most "normal" houses in reality. Just as a side note here, cars supplied to the Isle of Man are full UK specification and were supplied via the UK importer; Mercedes-Benz UK. It was serviced by the same supplying main dealer an amazing 35 times, during the time it was on the Isle of Man, and even still carries the supplying main dealer sticker in the rear window. It remained there until I brought it over to the mainland in 2016, although I also suspect, judging by the condition of this car, that it spent some considerable time in a warmer climate too, which would explain why its so well preserved. The car is now on mainland plates are carries the correct 1981 "X" suffix registration number.
In the last few years, the vehicle was used less and less, and was finally stored in a very dry garage at quite an impressive property before I acquired it in 2016, as the owner had fallen into ill health, and sadly subsequently passed away. The car then became part of the late gentleman's (considerable) estate, after which it eventually found its way to me through a contact I have.
The vehicle has now been fully re-commissioned (I have pictures and a documented schedule of everything that has been done) and as you can see is in absolutely stunning condition, and I'm fairly confident this is among the very best (if not "the" best) early W126 available. This car really is a piece of automotive and Mercedes history.
MTSV CLASSIC MERCEDES
MTSV (an abbreviation for Mark Taylor Specialist Vehicles) was born out an incurable and lifelong obsession for anything with four wheels on it, especially those carrying the legendary Three Pointed Star. Established by me, Mark Taylor in November 2005 when the Classic Car market was in its infancy and long before “everyman and his dog” had jumped on the Classic Car bandwagon. Specialising in Classic Mercedes from the late 1970’s, through to the 2000’s, I also frequently have the odd foray into other quality classics and sometimes even modern cars, however the qualification is always that it has to be interesting, and/ or just a little different; my theory, which has served me well so far, is that if I like it, someone else probably will!
My main specialisation is the legendary Mercedes W201 190 and Mercedes W124; I firmly believe these models were about as good as cars got in terms of sheer, teutonic quality, and believe them to be the best cars Mercedes have ever made. I’ve built up a substantial knowledge of both the W201 190 & W124 over many years, which I’m always happy to share, and have recently contributed to a W201 buying guide written by Julian Parish. I also have extensive experience of the most of the Mercedes models within my “band of interest” namely the W116, W123, W202 & W203 C-Class, W208 & W209 CLK, W210 & W211 E-Class, W126 & W140 S-Class, R170 & R171 SLK and the R129 SL-Class. Obviously as time goes on later models are coming onto my radar too.
MTSV has always, and will always focus on quality rather than quantity, and in doing so has earned and continues to maintain an enviable reputation among its many customers both in the UK and abroad, many who are now three, four and even five times repeat customers, many of which have become good friends. I’m also listed in the Mercedes Club Directory as a recommended business and I’ve also had several of my rarer cars featured in the motoring press too.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business. To read more, see my website at - details above
Any other questions, please feel free to contact me via the details on my website. I'm a firstly and foremostly a true car enthusiast of many, many years, and a Mercedes Club Member, so it's a pleasure to meet and speak to like-minded people.
Finally, I'm situated in Keighley, West Yorkshire (Postal Code Area BD21) which is approximately 11 miles from Skipton, and 20 miles West of Leeds.
Thanks for reading my advert!
