EXTERIOR
The term ‘icon’ is used far too often in the car world however upon seeing this 1966 Fastback Mustang it seems completely justified. Its angular lines and sharp details are perfectly framed by its Raven Black colour to create what is arguably one of the most recognisable silhouettes ever made.
This particular car is an early example built in 1966 and presents after its UK based restoration in excellent condition. The paintwork maintains a deep shine across its surface, free from any swirls or blemishes after some lavished attention from our in house detailing team. The exterior chrome is also extremely clean and contrasts the deep black superbly.
INTERIOR
With the original interior completely re-trimmed, and the steering wheel moved over to the right side, the interior of the Mustang presents in fantastic condition. The seats are free from any wear or creasing and the dash sits with no unsightly cracks or fading.
During the cars restoration, there were also some modern updates carried out to bring this classic a step closer to the 21st century and make it more usable. It was fitted with A/ C and the original stereo was replaced with a retro-style modern unit, which features Bluetooth and a vastly improved sound. The original instrument cluster was also replaced by a digital system, which gives clearer, more accurate readings whilst giving the interior a unique, contemporary edge.
As part of its RHD conversion a power rack and pinion steering was added again increasing the cars usability in the UK along with lighter steering.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
With such striking looks the Mustang needed a motor to match, and Ford didn’t disappoint. The 289cu (4. 7L) V8; producing 225bhp and an epic exhaust note its no wonder the Mustang came to define the Muscle Car genre.
This engine was overhauled during the cars restoration with the addition of Ford Racing GT40 Aluminium Heads & Roller Rockers, Edelbrook Intake Manifold & 4 Barrel Carburettor. The Automatic was also rebuilt with the drivetrain also receiving an added addition of a limited slip differential.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
As with much of the car, the wheels have been tastefully upgraded to a set of chrome Cragar alloys. Known as the ‘muscle car wheels’ they present a classic design at a more modern size and sit in pristine condition. The white wall tyres provide a much-needed contrast and set off the black coachwork beautifully.
Old muscle cars do have a reputation for poor handling however with this Mustang things are a bit different. The current owner opted to ditch the basic braking set up and instead fitted a set of front Willwood discs and callipers. The front suspension has also been modified and front and rear anti-roll bars have also been fitted to transform the handling of the car.
HISTORY FILE
Built in 1966 at the Ford Dearborn plant in Michigan this 289 Fastback spent nearly all of its life in the USA. Imported to the UK in 2013 it was bought from its last long term owners in Carmel, Indiana who had owned the car since 1994, a copy of this title is included in the history file.
On arrival it went through a thorough restoration and upgrade both mechanically, cosmetically to enhance the iconic Mustang both in form and function.
The history file contains a CD photographically documenting the restoration along with MOT certificates, Import papers, past titles and registration certificates.
