The Chrysler Newport was introduced as a way to increase sales and bring Chrysler vehicles to a new segment of the automotive community. The Newport name, formerly applied to a hardtop body style, was re-introduced and applied to this new series. Body styles included a sedan, convertible, hardtop coupe, hardtop sedan, and a 6- and 9-passenger station wagon.. this is the rare 4 door pillarless hardtop!
The Newport rested on the previous year's Windsor wheelbase. In the front were a fine horizontal bar setup, a straight bumper, and slanted headlamps. In the back, the tail-lamps were relocated into the deck lid latch panel and the tailfins ended in chromed inserts with small back-up lights.
This vehicle has been totally restored and all mechanics also rebuilt, I have some photos of the restoration process.
Power was provided from a 361 CID V8 overhead valve engine that offered 265 horsepower.
