If you’re looking for a car to last almost indefinitely, this 190D might be it. These old MB diesels are notoriously reliable and this example has just 47k miles from new and has just been subject to a substantial refresh in recent months.
Built in February 1990, this Arctic White 190D was trimmed in dark blue cloth and equipped with air conditioning, electric windows, automatic gearbox, outside temperature gauge, rear headrests and 15-hole alloy wheels among the full list of options detailed below.
Supplied new in Japan, it remained there until registered in the UK in September 2019. Due to the the very low mileage of 47k miles, together with the careful ownership and kind climate that Japan is known for, this W201 is in exceptional original condition. There is not a spot of corrosion on the car anywhere and the underside looks like new.
Since arriving in the UK the last owner embarked on a program of rejuvenation to ensure that, even after 30 years, this 190D is as usable as any new car.

This work included 4x new Michelin Cross Climate tyres, all fluids and filters including gearbox and differential, new engine mounts, propshaft coupling, exhaust, vacuum pump and timing chain and tensioner (as a precaution) all using genuine Mercedes parts. The thermostat, battery and drive belts have been changed and the air conditioning has been fully serviced including a new receiver/ dryer.
The factory sound system has been upgraded to a Pioneer DAB fold-out head unit that incorporates a reversing camera and sat nav along with Bluetooth hands free etc. Plus, additional speakers have been hidden discreetly under the rear seat.
So, with the car mechanically thoroughly refreshed and the infotainment system brought up to date, this is a classic Mercedes that can be used like a modern car.
As the photos show this 190D is in superb condition throughout and drives accordingly.
Most of the classic Mercedes diesels were bought to drive big mileages and 30 years on most are pretty much used up. This is a rare opportunity to buy one that still looks and drives like new with a remarkably low mileage and the rare option of air conditioning. A true, ‘last forever’ Mercedes.
