Revered for years as the ultimate ‘do everything’ car. The 124 estate in big-engine, high spec form was tremendously practical, fast and luxurious with elegant styling. It was as classy as it was classless.
Its evident charms have meant that this is one of the hardest models to find today – for all their longevity these were cars people drove and used everyday covering big mileages rather than cossetted in the garage. We are always looking excellent examples but they rarely come up.
First registered on March 14th 1996, this E320 estate was finished in Ruby Red metallic with a mushroom interior. It was generous specified with leather upholstery, seven seats, automatic climate control, electric front seats and cruise control. All the key options.
Four owners from new. First purchased by a company in Central London, it was sold in 1998 to a couple in South Kensington who kept it until 2012. At which point it had covered just 40k miles from new. The next owner, who used the car for travelling between his homes, added to the mileage but spent a fortune on the car to keep it in A1 condition. There has been one subsequent owner and the mileage today sits at 114, 952 miles.
This car has an incredible service history. There are 16 service stamps in the book, but more importantly there is bills several inches thick in the folder. To give you some idea, I totalled up the bills from the last 15 years, which totalled in excess of £44, 000. This is a car that has been maintained without thought to expense. Importantly the head gasket has been replaced, the wiring hardness has been replaced, the suspension has been overhauled and so on…
This E320 is in absolutely beautiful condition throughout and drives accordingly. All original books and manuals.
These estates remain so popular today as they are in many ways the ultimate ‘practical classic’ and just as usable now as when new. This is a truly excellent example that wants for nothing other than a new owner to enjoy it.
