SUMMARY

Supplied new by Drake & Fletcher Mercedes of Maidstone, and serviced by them and latterly by Jackson's Mercedes Poole, this is one of the best preserved facelift W124 saloon's I've encountered in quite some time. It was used sparingly up to around 2010, after which it lay unused in a dry garage for almost five years, which I assume was due to the owner falling into ill health, and eventually passing away. It was subsequently re-commissioned in 2015 which is when I first came across this beautiful vehicle.

I first sold this car back in October 2015 to one of my “serial car owner” customers of mine, who spent a further fortune on it, before PX’ing it back with me for about a 8 months later, which at that time was his typical attention span with his cars! I then subsequently sold in July 2016 to a local gentleman, who’s used the car sparingly, taking it to several shows and who looked after it like a baby, however due to failing eyesight, he asked me if I wanted to buy the car back – knowing how this gentleman looks after his cars, I didn’t need asking twice as W124’s very rarely come up as nice as this one!

Finished in desirable and beautiful colour combination of 512 Almandine Red with Mushroom Leather Interior, both the paintwork and the interior are virtually unmarked condition. The underside continues in the same vein, with the lack of corrosion on the under body being more akin to that of considerably younger vehicle. It’s patently obvious this has car been a highly cosseted vehicle, and has been garaged for the majority of life. This is further confirmed by the unfaded nature of the bright orange instruments needles on the dials; these tend to fade to yellow over the years if the vehicle is kept outside.

Mechanically, at just 69K miles it's in superb order, and drives almost as you'd expect a new W124 would have driven. The M104 6-cylinder 24 valve engine is by its nature syrupy smooth and gives superb performance too. Also as this car was specified with the optional 5-Speed Automatic Transmission, motorway cruising is both very relaxed affair, and returns noticeably more miles per gallon than one would expect to achieve with earlier 4-speed auto. The all important engine wiring loom was replaced in 2016, with the improved Delphi made part, and comes with the relevant documentation to substantiate this.

The vehicle has a full history which is in the form of a stamped service booklet which is stamped from day one and is up-to-date, however there is only supporting paperwork from around 2015, due to the car being the subject of probate after the owners death around 2014, however it's very clear to both myself, and to my mechanic, that this car has been conscientiously maintained throughout its entire life, and goes some way to explaining why it’s in such amazing condition now.

So, in summary, I would probably go as far as to say this is probably one of the best facelift W124 currently on offer, and is definitely a show winning candidate. Equally, unlike many other lesser classics, if required, it could also be used as reliable, stylish everyday transport too. If you're looking for one of these, you'll know the supply of quality W124's is ever dwindling, which has had a net effect of steadily pushing up values…. just look what happened to the values of good quality examples of its predecessor, the W123!

MTSV CLASSIC MERCEDES

MTSV (an abbreviation for Mark Taylor Specialist Vehicles) was born out an incurable and lifelong obsession for anything with four wheels on it, especially those carrying the legendary Three Pointed Star. Established by me, Mark Taylor in November 2005 when the Classic Car market was in its infancy and long before “everyman and his dog” had jumped on the Classic Car bandwagon. Specialising in Classic Mercedes from the late 1970’s, through to the 2000’s, I also frequently have the odd foray into other quality classics and sometimes even modern cars, however the qualification is always that it has to be interesting, and/ or just a little different; my theory, which has served me well so far, is that if I like it, someone else probably will!

My main specialisation is the legendary Mercedes W201 190 and Mercedes W124; I firmly believe these models were about as good as cars got in terms of sheer, teutonic quality, and believe them to be the best cars Mercedes have ever made. I’ve built up a substantial knowledge of both the W201 190 & W124 over many years, which I’m always happy to share, and have recently contributed to a W201 buying guide written by Julian Parish. I also have extensive experience of the majority of the Mercedes models within my “band of interest” namely the W116, W123, W202 & W203 C-Class, W208 & W209 CLK, W210 & W211 E-Class, W126 & W140 S-Class, R170 & R171 SLK and the R129 SL-Class. Obviously as time goes on later models are coming onto my radar too.

MTSV has always, and will always focus on quality rather than quantity, and in doing so has earned, and continues to maintain an enviable reputation among its many customers both in the UK and abroad, many who are now three, four and even five times repeat customers, some of which have become good friends too. I’m also listed in the Mercedes Club Directory as a recommended business and I’ve also had several of my rarer cars featured in the motoring press too.

THE MTSV DIFFERENCE

Unlike some, I don't just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business. To read more, see my website at - details above

Any other questions, please feel free to contact me via the details on my website. I'm a firstly and foremostly a true car enthusiast of many, many years, and a Mercedes Club Member, so it's a pleasure to meet and speak to like-minded people.

Finally, I'm situated in Keighley, West Yorkshire (Postal Code Area BD21) which is approximately 11 miles from Skipton, and 20 miles West of Leeds.

Thanks for reading my advert!
Mark.
