TJU 486N was first registered on the 1st September 1974 and sold by us in April 2015 to the most recent owner. Over the past five years the MGB has covered 1000 faultless miles and has not been out in the wet seeing fine weather use only. In 2015 it was subject of a complete outer re-spray at our Malton Coachworks Bodyshop and five years on the car presents exceptionally well with a stunning paint finish. Prior to coming to us in 2015, the MGB had been with its last owner for 12 years and has covered 2000 miles with regular maintenance.
Over the past five years the MG has required no major work, it has been a true delight to own and proven totally reliable. It has had a battery isolator fitted and required light servicing to include an oil and filter change and new spark plugs. Paperwork from the previous 12 years confirms the MG had new ignition items, new fuel pump, new brake calipers, brake hoses and rear wheel cylinders. In 2007 the MG was cosmetically improved with the purchase of new Black leather seats and the interior has been nicely detailed and presents superbly.
The MG was restored during the mid-1990s and since then the total mileage is almost 6, 000. The MG has covered relatively low mileage and has been a fair weather and weekend car that has always been kept on the button and ready to drive. We have MOT's dating back to 1985 so we can know the car has always been kept on the road and never neglected enough to need a total nut and bolt rebuild. Even prior to its light restoration and re-commissioning during the 1990's, the MG was in regular use.
On the road TJU 486N is excellent with impressive handling and excellent brakes. The car feels tight on the road with a superb road holding. The engine feels strong, delivers impressive power and holds very good oil pressure. The four speed gearbox feels slick and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly. The MG has a structurally excellent, straight bodyshell and the paint finish five years on is still outstanding. The finish gleams, gaps are excellent, and the MG has a first class hood, smart chrome and an excellent set of chrome wire wheels. The engine bay and boot are very well presented so this is an example that will not look out of place at local shows, but will no doubt prove an excellent weekend touring car that will continue to demonstrate reliability as it has with its last two owners over the last seventeen years.
