NSJ 735 has had just two owners since undergoing a comprehensive, body-off, nut-and-bolt restoration by renowned MGA marque specialist Bob West between 1993 and 1998. Since its rebuild, the car has covered fewer than 9, 000 miles. On its very first outing, it was awarded ‘Car of the Show’ at the Footman James Classic Car Show at Manchester G-MEX, and it has since regularly participated in the prestigious Cheshire Concours d’Esprit.
Originally built at the Abingdon factory in 1959 to North American specification, the MGA was repatriated to the UK in the early 1990s in need of a complete restoration. The subsequent rebuild was carried out under the watchful eye of Bob West’s chief mechanic, James Horner, and undertaken to an exceptionally high standard, with an extensive photographic record documenting the work.
The restoration was comprehensive from the ground up. The body was removed and completely rebuilt, while the chassis was fully restored and the mechanical and electrical systems comprehensively renewed. Finished in beautifully presented Dark Blue, the car received renewed brightwork, new wheels and tyres, and a complete retrim. The seats were specially modelled on those fitted to the Le Mans MGA SRX 210, while the cockpit is further enhanced by an original Halda Speedpilot and Hanhart stopwatches.
The MGA is accompanied by an impressive and comprehensive history file, including restoration photographs, invoices, MOT certificates and a workshop manual. Importantly, this is not simply an older restoration that has survived well; the quality and extent of the original work remain immediately apparent. More than 25 years after its rebuild, NSJ 735 still presents with the appearance and quality of a far more recent restoration.
It is, quite simply, a magnificent example, both aesthetically and mechanically, and is equally impressive on the road. The car is ready to be enjoyed immediately by its next custodian.
In preparation for sale, the MGA underwent a £3, 050. 25 full service and inspection by Malton Coachworks in April 2026. The work carried out included:
