MZ ES250/ 2 Trophy 1973 – Running and currently taxed
Bought by me in May 2018 as a complete bike but a non-runner. It had been been bought by the previous owner in 2001 as a project that never got under way.
It was recommissioned over the winter 2018-19 and run for a while with a spare engine whilst its original engine was totally rebuilt including new crankshaft bearings etc. The original engine is now refitted and is very smooth and quiet mechanically.
New exhaust system, new chrome shock absorber shrouds and new tyres. Wheels rebuilt with s/ s spokes (I hate rusty spokes). Everything else was repaired or refurbished as necessary so it is mechanically very sound and rides well. I am quite tall so there are spacers under the seat to lift it about an inch. They are easy to remove if required. The motor is also fitted with a new Vape (Powerdynamo) alternator and runs 12v electrics. It is set up to run without the need for a battery but one can easily be fitted in place of the capacitor. Useful rear carrier with leather bag and some spare cables and oil measuring cup. The tank cap is the desirable ISDT Winners type. There is also the lock and key to secure the seat.
Cosmetically all the paintwork is original and bears the patina of its 47 years – shame to spoil this by doing a full paintwork restoration.
Useful extras include the sidestand and a warning light to remind you its still down!. Need running in as its only done a few miles since I refitted the original engine. Bike is registered historic and is tax free and MoT exempt. There is very little paperwork apart from a V5c in my name and some receipts for parts.
Price is firm, no silly offers please. It has cost me near what I am asking and only being offered as I have several other bikes including other MZs. This one has not been used for over 12 months so time to move it on and free up some space.
