EXTERIOR
The Diamond Blue Metallic paintwork presents very nicely and makes for a lovely contrast with the satin side panels and bumpers. This example is free from any corrosion in the normal SEC weak spots; it is also exceptionally tidy on the underside with no evidence of any previous welding, accident damage, or repairs. There are a few minor imperfections in the paintwork, with a couple of stone chips to the front and some very minor marks on the corners of the bumpers, but other than that nothing significant to report. Looking closer, all light lenses and glass are free from any chips or cracks; the plastic trims and rubber seals are also in excellent condition throughout. The car has clearly been cherished and we expect has spent most of its life garaged.
INTERIOR
The interior of this example is in truly first-class condition with hardly any wear to the seat upholstery, carpets, or centre console. The cabin still smells fresh, the only real imperfection to note being the headlining which has begun to sag. Judging by the condition you would expect the car to have covered half the mileage; there is no wear to the gearstick and none of the normal loss of texture to the leather on the steering wheel. All the electrics and switchgear are still working well.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Opening the bonnet reveals a very clean and well-kept engine bay. Reading through the service history it’s clear to see that this example has been exceptionally well maintained from new. The 4. 2-litre powerplant fires into life on the first turn of the key and settles to a lovely V8 rumble. Out on the open road the SEC makes for a beautiful cruiser, with effortless power and everything still feeling tight and precise, just as Mercedes intended.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The current owner treated the car to a set of deep-dish Borbet wheels and new tyres a few years ago. All of the alloys are in exceptional condition with only a couple of very small marks to report on close inspection. The matching tyres have plenty of tread remaining and new brake pads have just been fitted all round.
HISTORY FILE
On arrival at 4 Star the car was fully inspected and freshly serviced for the new keeper’s peace of mind; following inspection it was given a glowing report, which is available in the accompanying history file. The current owner has had the car for ten years, with three previous keepers to himself.
