motodrome offer for sale this rather wonderful 1972 Land Rover Series IIa 109in Marshall Ambulance, that in my opinion has been really nicely converted into a Camper.
From the outside, there really aren’t many clues as to what’s in the back. Finished in RAF blue etc, it would pass muster at any military vehicle show etc, with the added bonus that you can sleep in it in relative comfort.
At some point in the past, the original 2. 25 motor has been removed and replaced by a Land Rover 200Di engine (the 200TDi with the turbo removed as is recommended for Series vehicles) giving a decent combination of power, economy and reliability.
In the back, the wood lining finish has been applied over an insulated layer, meaning it should be nice in cooler weather. There are twin, electric fans in the roof for ventilation, thus avoiding condensation. An electric heater is also fitted, powered from the mains hook up. We have the correct cables for the mains hook up. The bed arrangements are very clever – the day sofa slides out to become a double bed.. The lighting is well thought out, as do the other electrics appear to be…nice electric panels and switches power the smart, low voltage lighting, and it has a full power management system.
There is a kitchen area with gas cooker, sink with running water, 110/ 12V fridge, DVD player, etc etc. It’s all been thought out well and nicely fitted.
It’s further fitted with sunvisor, sidesteps, towpack, and stereo.
Odometer reading 13000 miles (although this is largely irrelevant given the engine change and should really be taken as incorrect). New leisure battery fitted 2019, and it’s just had a new main battery fitted too.
I’ve used it a few times for picnics etc this summer, and it’s always had a great reaction wherever it’s been parked up. I absolutely love it. In the present climate, the ability to get away from it all is highly prized, and this can deliver on that.
It also comes with a Sunnycamp journeyman Dl platinum Drive away Tent, a Kampa Food Prep unit/ table with under food storage/ holder bowl sink, and an unused Kampa Toilet, although I haven’t unpacked or inspected these so cannot vouch for their condition.
