Description
Originally registered to Wakefield City Fire Brigade on March 11th 1952, this 9. 6 Litre AEC Regent-based fire appliance was put into preservation 47 years ago. There are many images of DHL 999 published online showing it at various rallies as far back as August 1973.
Locally owned since 1974, restoration began almost 30 years ago. The appliance was at great cost fully re-panelled, repainted and re-trimmed by its then owner, a world-renowned AEC authority and author of several books. It then was put into storage, where we discovered it five years ago in the next village. Since then it has been re-commissioned and largely re-wired with the wonderful wheeled escape ladder also repainted. It has regularly attended Classic & Sportscar Centre events and local shows, proving totally reliable with its superbly engineered AEC diesel engine. Recorded mileage is less than 18, 000 from new!
Presently fitted with an auxiliary diesel fuel tank, conveniently situated, the original tank and fittings are with the vehicle as are a number of accessories and a substantial history file. The appliance has won several trophies and awards at fire engine rallies we've attended. Still bearing its very valuable original plate DHL 999 is one of only four known survivors. We've decided it is now time to find a new home and have very attractively priced this stunning machine to attract its next enthusiastic owner.
