A very nicely specified example of the elegant 124 coupé with the desirable six-cylinder engine.
First registered by Craigside MB in August 1990. Finished in Arctic White with Mushroom leather, it was comprehensively equipped with electric seats (driver’s with memory), orthopaedic and heated seats, ASD (locking differential), rear roller blind, 15-hole alloys, adjustable steering column.
There is a full service history with 21 stamps in the book, majority from the supplying dealer, and a folder full of receipts.
In 2011 the car was purchased by an enthusiast who carried out an extensive restoration. This restoration was documented on his website (bmwclassics. co. uk), which lists the work in full. In brief, it included removing and powder coating the rear subframe, reassembling with all new bushes and arms, new springs and Sachs dampers all round, all new brakes front and rear, new brake and fuel lines. The cooling system was completely replaced along with the ignition system. In addition to all this there was a huge amount of smaller jobs carried out – new armrest, new dash bulbs, speakers and much more – required to bring the car back to as close to new as possible.
The last owner has spent over £10k on further work at respected MB specialists over the last 6 years, including a full top end rebuild of the engine and timing chain replacement. All documented with receipts.
As the photos show, the car presents very nicely inside and out, aside from a few blemishes. The underside is in excellent order and completely rust free including the vulnerable jacking points and inner wings.
MoT until 27th October 2021. HPI clear with certificate.
Overall, this 300CE offers fantastic value having had a fortune spent on it in all the right places. Sure, it offers opportunity for the enthusiast to make further minor improvements should they wish, but the fundamental work has already been done and six-cylinder 124 Coupés are getting harder to find.
