SUMMARY
Bought new from Jackson’s Mercedes, St. Helier for not so insignificant sum £34, 000, however taking into consideration that VAT isn’t charged on the Channel Islands, this essentially saved the owner a considerable amount of money; if it had been bought on the mainland, the cost would have been nearer a whacking £40, 000!
It remained on Jersey until November 2000, until it came over to the mainland with its only owner. It spent the next nineteen years in his possession, and was always garaged when not in use, and was correctly maintained by Mercedes-Benz of Brighton, and latterly a respected Mercedes Specialist (IN-Autos).
Finished in the unusual and high attractive 189 Black Opal, a colour best described as a metallic black with a wonderful green pearl hue, which is especially highlighted by sunlight. This is also a very well specified example and comes with several expensive and desirable options including Electric Tilt/ Slide Glass Sunroof, Leather Interior, Air Conditioning, Tempomat (Cruise Control/ Speed Limiter) Electric Seats (drivers memory also), Orthopaedic Seats and PDC (Parking Sensors) Front & Rear.
The bodywork & paintwork are in truly pristine condition with no dents, scuffs or scrapes usually associated with a 20 year old car. It’s also worth noting the car has none of the usual corrosion associated with Mercedes this era, and even the headlight lenses are as new with none of the common clouding or fading. The original diamond cut alloys are also in pristine condition and are shod with excellent matching Michelin Tyres , while the spare remains unused
The interior is particularly impressive and is in almost as new condition and is completely unmarked with zero wear. Two sets of genuine Mercedes mats are also in place (both carpet & rubber) and the walnut wood trim is excellent throughout. The interior still even retains the “new” smell and look. Needless to say, everything, including the air-conditioning works exactly as intended.
The day I bought this car, I drove it 335 miles on a “detoured” trip home, and I can report it drives utterly faultlessly with absolutely no rattles or unwanted noises. The M112 V6 engine, which is now widely regarded as one of the best engines Mercedes have made, is both ultra smooth and impressively powerful, and is a perfectly suited to the chassis dynamics of the W208 CLK, and unlike the workmanlike 4-cylinder variants, the V6 really does give every drive a real sense of occasion.
The car comes complete with its original owner’s manual/ booklet, service book with full comprehensive service history, all three keys & all invoices documenting all service and repair work carried out. The original purchase invoice is also contained within the extensive history file.
So, in summary this is a simply beautiful example of a W208 CLK having had just one owner, and covered just 47k miles, with a full service history, with the added bonus of being finished in a very attractive and rare colour (most tend to be silver) As such, especially with W208 CLK’s becoming increasing sought after, particularly the six and eight cylinder variants, this exceptional CLK320 would be absolutely ideal as a weekend or show car. Equally it could also be used for comfortable & reliable everyday motoring, although, I think it would be somewhat of a shame to subject such a wonderfully preserved example to bad weather.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don't just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have.
