Truly exceptional W140 S-Classes are increasingly difficult to find, however with just 36k miles from new, 2 owners and a complete history, this is such a car.
Considered by many as the pinnacle of S-Class development and certainly the last traditional Mercedes to be developed by Stuttgart since the development went so far over budget. With the W140, they really did set out to build the best car in the world.
Finished in Tourmaline Green metallic with Mushroom leather interior, this S-Class was highly specified with over £16, 000 of optional equipment. The full specification is detailed below but this includes xenon headlights, Parktronic, heated/ memory/ orthopaedic seats, adaptive damping, rear blind, Auto pilot system, rear climate control, electric rear bench seat and 18in Eltanin alloy wheels to name a few.
The first owner, a wealthy Cypriot gentleman, collected the car from the factory and drove it to Cannes, France before returning it to his London home for use when he came to the UK. Between visits the car remained safely garaged on Park Lane.
When the first owner became too elderly to travel to London, the car passed to its second owner in 2019 who has religiously cared for the car since.
To give you some idea, it has never failed an MoT and only had one advisory (tyre, 2007) since 2006.
All original books and manuals come with the car, all keys (three remote, one credit card key) and a full service history.
Despite its low mileage there have been no less than 15 services carried out, sometimes with only a few hundred miles covered between services. The second owner’s attention to detail has continued that no expense spared approach to maintenance – anything the car has required has been attended to with new genuine parts – and extended to a diary noting the date and mileage of every tank of fuel.
Suffice to say that after such a cossetted life, this S420 is in quite incredible condition, outside, inside and underneath. What’s more, it drives with such smoothness, effortlessness and quietness that it feels factory fresh.
