Descripción
One of a handful of Saab 900 models in existance from their first year of production, unique in its specification and rare that it has remianed in the same family from new!
Supplied new by Belsyre Garage, Oxford in December 1979, this 900 GLE was specified in a unique colcour scheme of Anthracite metallic, the same colour of the original owners 99 GLE 4 door which he part exchanged against this 900. This GLE is one of the very first series, large individual electric door mirrors, high back front seats, no rear fog lights with early rear boot and twin vented bonnet. Since 1979 the car has covered 72, 366 miles. The only change of ownership was to the original owners son in 2007, when his father passed away. Now after 42 years the car has left the family and is being offered for sale to the public for the first time.
Also unique was the original owner did not take up the no cost (and far more common in period) automatic option, so it has the 4 speed manual gearbox, which was such a rare thing to do its not common knowledge that they exist!
Correct and complete in every way, the original owner had the forsight to have the car completely and thoroughly waxoiled when new by Belsyre, thus the car remains after all these years absolutely rust free, being garaged from new also helped. The pintwork is 90% original, and still hold up very well. The stainless steel wheel trims are all present, as is the original and fully operating Philips radio cassette player..... the Saab still has its dealer fitment electric aerial and Saab overmats.
The interior, finished in Burgundy velour trim, is unmarked, untouched and original. Only the headlining has at some point been replaced. The full size spare wheel still has the tyre fitted 42 years ago, the tool role (far too early a model for the underfloor tray tool kit) is complete and appears hardly used.
Early maintenance was carried out by Belsyre Garage, but over a 10 year period the car was maintained by SV Oakey of Stow on the Wold, in my experience at the time the finest mechanical people around for Saabs....... In recent times the car has been looked after by a local Classic Car specialist near Moreton-in Marsh, Gloucestershire, where the car has always lived. Recent work has included a new set of original specification Michelin Tyres, head gasket, brake overhaul and new water pump, and having covered over 500 miles in the last month in this car I can testify it is an absolulte joy to drive.
Being sold with its original sales invloice, blue vinyl folder with stamped up service sheet, handbook, dealer listings, philips radio handbook, Saab Owners Club card.........
In addition I have every MOT, pages and pages of service and maintenance bills, original brochure and price list.
My own experience with Saabs started in 1979/ 80, so to me this is a very special car. Having owned most varients, including a 99 Turbo 5 door for 20 years, which I used as an everyday car for many years, and the 99 Turbo 3 door that my father bought new, still pristine, low mileage and still in our garage! I know most things there is to know about this era of Saab through experience, some good, some bad. This 900 GLE is unique and special, its needs to be cherished as it has been thus far and enjoyed by someone who really appreciates Saabs when I feel they were at their peak and at the forefront.
Plese note I will add pictures of the car as soon as I can.................
