The W140 S-Class is synonymous with the era of Mercedes where build quality and engineering came above everything else. The sheer size of these cars is something to behold and if you find a good one they are truly a pleasure to own.
This 1998 model was manufactured in June 1998, the last year for this body style. Under the bonnet lies a 5 litre, quad cam V8 developing 326 BHP. As a later model it benefits from the 5 Speed (5G) Automatic transmission and improved electronic engine management equipment. Despite its weight this behemoth can shift its self up to 60 mph in 7 seconds.
This particular car has clearly let a pampered life and thankfully has escaped the fate of many of these cars which is to be simply run into the ground. They will carry on for years with little or no maintenance while suffering neglect and cosmetic damage. The majority of the cars paintwork appears original, in fact the only rectification required was for the bumpers to be refinished (in their correct satin finish) to correct a few minor bumper scuffs.
Without doubt one of the most striking elements of the car is the colour, finished in Ruby Red Metallic, this colour was only available from 1995 and is a rare find on the S Class of this era (maybe it didn't look appealing in the brochure). It is complemented by Orion grey leather and walnut trim.

In addition to this the standard equipment includes double glazing to side windows, one touch electric windows, cruise control with speed limiter, folding rear head restraints, traction control, ABS brakes, drivers and passengers front and side airbags, front and rear illuminated vanity mirrors, carpet mats, full tool kit, luggage compartment net and infra red remote central locking with full closure function.
The car is fitted with genuine Mercedes 18" 'Eltanin' wheels, these were an expensive option when new and are incredibly hard to find now. They have been refurbished at great expense with the correct diamond cut outer rim. To say they set the car off would be an understatement!
As you would expect this car has been maintained properly with serviced at the Mercedes Main Dealer at 11k, 20k, 28k, 30k, 38k, 41k, 45k, 49k and 60k. the car is HPi clear, is supplied with 2 keys, all books and manuals and as just flown through its MOT!
