Description
2006 Mercedes C220 Cdi Coupe SE.
112300 miles (these miles will increase marginally.)
The car has partial service history, early history in its book, then complete history under my ownership.
The engine is strong and pulls well, no smoke on start up or acceleration. The car is pre DPF (just!) Auto box shifts cleanly and all the settings function as they should, additionally this specification has steering wheel shift paddles that function as intended.
A very nice and rare shade of dark red, with black leather interior. The seats are three stage heated. The aircon is also functional after a recharge.
Original navigation module, although it is now outdated, however it does still receive traffic que updates. CD Player and Radio, all functional. A hands free phone system that still works if you obtain a Bluetooth adapter that fits into the armrest dock. I use the AUX socket in the glove box that neatly connects my phone audio for radio and podcasts.
Sliding glass roof that still functions and I finally had the outstanding recall check done for this. The sun blinds do not function, the mechanism works however the connection clips have broken with age. I have new ones, it was going to be a winter job for me, these will come with the car if you wish to have a go yourself.
Externally the paintwork is in a condition that you would expect for a car of this age. Clean but marked here and there. I have shown all four arches in the photographs. There is a small amount of paint bubbling on the rear lower arches, although no evidence that this has gone through. a clean and localised paint will tidy this up (the body work steel is thicker here than the front wings.) The front wings have been replaced with reconditioned salvage items, painted and fitted. they are not a perfect paint match however they are 100%rust free. Time was taken when the wings were off to clean out the inner structures and inspect as required (this was actually a straightforward job.)
When I bought the car and took it straight for a service it became apparent that its last MOT was done by a blind man! A substantial amount of its front links, bushes and bars were a cause for concern as were two broken springs, all these issues have been replaced. Also the bottom steel kidney panel that sits under the steering rack was severely corroded. This has been sourced and replaced with a reconditioned item. This allows all the undertrays to be securely refitted correctly.
Other Work that has been done:
The in tank fuel pump has been replaced.
The ignition switch unit failed and has been repaired and reconditioned (this is a specialist warranted repair.)
All four corners, new discs and pads, slider pins, etc. New front springs.
Headlight glass buffed clear.
Rear parcel shelf sourced and refitted.
All four alloys stripped, inspected for cracks and powder coated in silver, with new centre caps.
Four new quality budget tyres (GT radials) matching types fitted on purchase.
New washer jets fitted. Wiper blades on purchase.
The car has had three services in my care regardless of mileage and two MOTs with only a minor advisory for a steering rack gator. If I wasn't selling, I’d have this fixed at its next service. I have owned the car since August 2024.
After and climbing accident in August of 2024 I needed a 'cheap' auto to get me primarily too and from work. With a small budget I went looking, and it became apparent that most cheap autos available were Mercs of this era. Having owned a C class saloon twenty years ago I naturally gravitated to these, finding this car, it was the best fit for what I needed at the time. The thinking being that it would be sold no more than three month later. However after discovering all the areas of neglected maintenance that cars of this age can suffer from, I decided just to keep it and use it to get my monies worth out of the work that I'd done. It has been a pleasant commuting car that has helped keep the miles down on my other cars, and it is not without its charms. The seats make it cosy in winter and the roof adds something to those warm early morning summer drives to work. It’s also pretty quiet at a steady motorway cruise, which makes listening to your favourite podcasts a breeze. Its ride is firm but comfortable.
I am 'slightly' handy at home spannering, so some of the work has been done by myself, the more difficult, ramp related work has been carried out by my trusted garage.
Essentially, I recommissioned the car from something that most people would walk away from and scrap, into a usable classy daily driver again. Something that you can enjoy but not feel to precious about, mechanically fit, an oily rag car, that's been used regularly to commute for the last two years.
I think it has many more miles left in it yet for someone to use and enjoy, I'm not saying that something won’t go pop! It is a twenty year old car after all. But it has been kept in a attached garage when its not in use, connected to a battery monitor, washed regularly and generally kept in the best condition it could be relative to its age and condition.
If it broke it got fixed, if it still worked it wasn't touched.
I think I'm asking a fair price for it considering all the things the new owner will not have to do, I have no reason to expect it won't pass its next MOT. Just change its oil at least once a year and off you go.
Read the description but ask me questions if there is anything you would like to know.
