1973 BMW 3. 0 CSL
Finished in Polaris Silver
One of 500 UK RHD examples produced
Introduced at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, the BMW E9 3. 0 CSL was produced for homologation for the European Touring Car Championship. The CSL (Coupe Sport Leicht), as the name suggests, was a lightweight version of the BMW CS. The reduced weight was achieved by the use of thinner gauge steel body panels, along with the use of aluminium on the bonnet, boot lid and doors. Lightweight perspex was used for the side windows which were wind-up rather than electric.
UK RHD examples were however not quite so light weight. Although retaining the lightweight body and panels, they were fitted with what BMW called a 'City Pack' which added power steering, chrome bumpers and reinstated the standard glass electric windows.
Offered here is one of the 500 UK market RHD 'City Pack' cars. A completely restored example which has received a full concours quality, nut and bolt restoration. This would be incredibly difficult to recreate at the asking price.
Offered direct from MD's personal collection.
