Another great find by PTTM, and we are proud to be able to offer it to our clients! This true and rare numbers matching, fully documented! And original super low mile, 1970 Olds 442 holiday coupe 455cui 4 speed! And it’s also a real documented W25 Ram air hood car! Very rare indeed. This car is in amazing and super correct, all original condition, and it has only 14000 documented original miles on the odometer. The car is loaded with special options and has a great color combination of Azure blue metallic paint, blue deluxe, bucket seat interior, and it’s factory extra cost option white rally stripes. It stands on its factory original optional rally wheels that were also painted in the correct color. Wow, what a stunning looking car right?
With only approx. 3900 455cui 365 HP 4-speeds cars ever produced, this car can be considered a true collector's item. And with this color combination, option packages and being a true W25 Ram air car, we estimate it is one of maybe a handful ever produced. It might also have been a factory promo car, or a factory executive car, however we can’t prove that. But seeing its options and low mileage this car was for sure rare and very expensive when it rolled of the assembly line in 1970.
And that combined with the fact the car is genuine original and still has its numbers match drive line in place and is also highly documented makes it a real holy grail as documented cars are much more valuable and rare than cars without that proof of pedigree. For 1970 Olds introduced a complete new model and the base engine for the 4-4-2 became the 455 cui powerhouse with a monstrous 365HP factory hp rating, which in reality was much more as was proven by many car journalists at the time. Many estimated the real HP to be 425 or more.
Combined with these cars 4-speed you have one of the absolute fastest production muscle car of 1970 and on. These unique cars were highly underrated against cars like the more famous Hemi-Cuda’s and Copo Camaro’s. But this car was an absolute beast and a Gm’s secret weapon as this car was the real king of the streets and famous for their humongous torque combined with the looks and luxurious interiors. There build quality was also on a higher platform than most Muscle cars of that era. It was in a league of its own.
In the late 60s and early 70s, as with many car brands, the 455's HP ratings dropped considerably because of the fuel crisis that was at hand and also because of the ever-increasing demand for less polluting cars. Compression ratios were lowered, and exhaust emission systems were installed in combination with lower grade camshafts, which all lead to the decline of the true Muscle cars of the years before. This 1970 Old’s 442 is therefore one of the last real genuine and purpose build Muscle cars of that famous period in history and up until today it’s still a fast car that will eat most modern cars for breakfast.
The car was, although its real low miles, and its survivor status, restored in our shop in 2021 with respect for its originality and rarity and almost every component on this car is therefor still factory original and correct for the car. The fact that the car is so original and super solid must also be due to the fact that it was almost never driven and pampered until the day it we restored it. This makes the car look almost the same as the day it left the showroom of Olds dealer Kailer Youngquist inc. back in 1970.
We found this amazing car with its last owner, who took great care of it. The car also comes with a written low mileage guarantee, by what we think was the original owner and of course the original title that also states its low original 14000 miles. And before we started the restoration we also felt that this was correct as everything, also inside the engine, was still in super original condition. But of course the car stood in garages and barns for more than 50 years and no car will survive that in as new condition, so we decided to freshen everything up back to as new condition as this rare car deserved that.
We invested more than 60000,- on the restoration alone and that is without the car’s own value. A super rare car indeed and a great investment. With its great color combination, which is a rare color combo by itself, and it being a genuine and numbers match 4 speed W25 Ram air car, that is loaded with almost all factory options its maybe one of a handful left today and in this quality you won't find a better car for less.
As stated the car is also loaded with factory options and has a gorgeous, as new blue factory interior with bucket seats and console shifter, power steer, rally dash and rally suspension just to name some. We restored the interior but 99% of the components are still original, but now in as new condition. The car was painted in 2021 in our shop in it’s factory original colors and factory original extra option white stripes. The paint is stunning and the body straight with no damages. All the chrome, glass, body trim, grill, lights, everything is in as new restored condition. This car is a real high quality car!
We also rebuild the complete engine and drivetrain. And although the car appears to be an original low mile car, we felt that after 50+ years it was better to take all apart and build it back together. But the Engine is still an original 0 bore engine, and we only installed new bearings, seals, and gaskets and new piston rings, and we rebuilt the heads with fresh springs, seats, and guides and valves. The transmission was checked and we installed a new clutch and pressure plate, so everything is now up to par.
After the restoration we detailed the car and restored the factory production line markings and inspection decals so this car looks like it left the factory yesterday. The car is in real concourse condition and even better, it runs and drives like new as well. This might well be one of the best 70’442’s around on the market today. In combination with its documentation and pro rebuild, this one is absolutely a collector piece.
The car comes with a copy of it’s factory original build sheet !, original dealer window sticker!, production card and owner history. It just doesn't get any better than that. All the cars parts, the engine and the drivetrain were checked by us on correct numbers and casting codes, and all appears to be factory original to the car. The low miles are also documented, and we think it’s accurate. A 442 alone is already a fantastic car by itself, but a 455cui Big block car with a manual 4 speed transmission is one of the fastest muscle cars of its era. As you probably know a 4 speed manual transmission car is faster than its automatic component due to the fact that the automatics lose around 30-35% of the HP to the drive line as were 4 speeds only lose a few percent. A manual 4 speed is also way more fun to drive and feel and use the real potential of a muscle car.
The Oldsmobile 442 with the 455-365hp factory hp rated engine is considered as one of the strongest and fastest muscle car of its time and a real investment grade classic indeed. And with this car's documentation and its low mileage its one of the best you can't find. As of today many of these rare cars that come with no proof of its history and originality, might just as well be a clone as most 442's these days are. Not this one sir !, it's the real deal and completely original and with pedigree to prove its origin.
