1954 Land Rover Series One 86 inch. Very nice example of this fast appreciating classic 4 x 4.
Launched in 1948, the Land Rover was the brainchild of Maurice Wilks. Inspired by the WW2 Willys Jeep, an example of which Wilks used on his estate in Anglesey, the Land Rover was designed for farm and light industrial use. It featured a 1. 6 litre engine and an 80 inch wheelbase.
In 1954 an improved version was introduced which featured a more powerful 2 litre engine, a 6 inch longer wheelbase, an improved instrument layout and opening air vents beneath the windscreen.
The example we have for sale is from that first year of 86 inch production and is in very good order throughout. It has benefitted from much recent expenditure which includes a rebuilt ignition system, battery, spare wheel jacket, handbrake linings, new carburetter, rebuilt brake master cylinder and gearbox cross member.
Restored some years ago, the Land Rover is finished in the correct Bronze Green colour and presents extremely well indeed. Similarly the interior is in very good order as is the canvas hood.
Under the bonnet everything is clean and well presented, as is the underside.
It is an instant starter and the engine shows excellent oil pressure.
On the road the Land Rover drives very well thanks to abundant torque from the flexible IOE engine and a very quiet powertrain.
The Land Rover comes with a Series One Instruction Manual, a Land Rover Workshop Manual for the 1954-1957 models, a spare key and various receipts.
