Description

A TRULY beautiful 1970 Wolseley 18/ 85 "Land crab" in what I believe is Damask Red. A great colour with a stunning rich and deep lustre. In fact I would say that this proud old girl looks even BETTER in the flesh than she does in these photos which I took today!

Body and paint-wise, she is delightful. So much so that I would suggest probably better than most 1970 cars were by the time they were three years old. Any minor imperfections do not impact on the beauty of this luxury motor.

Her interior is equally as impressive with fantastic seats, dash and what looks like the original cloth head lining.

I collected her yesterday and drove around 60 miles. Half of that distance was motorway driving and the other half a quick hop around the Yorkshire Dales while she was still warm. I found her to be a comfortable and superb driver with the temperature never rising above normal (it was 27 degrees in the sun yesterday!) while her oil pressure stayed at around 60 psi when hot! One of my photos taken this morning shows the position of the temperature and oil gauges after around 15 minutes of running time. Pretty impressive!

She is also fitted with a digital device which monitors the car's temperature and switches the fan on and off - so I believe. There is a load of technical info with it. It is called an EWP (electric water pump).

Then there is the addition of dampers to the rear suspension and shockers to the front. These have been added to complement the car's hydrolastic suspension system and you can really tell the difference. She handles magnificently and firmly.

Great underneath too with excellent sills etc. An opportunity not to be missed.

There are also copies of a double page spread in a 1995 edition of Popular Classics magazine in which this actual car was used in a photo shoot for an article on Land Crabs.

Please remember that these classic cars are the equivalent of motoring antiques and cannot, under any circumstances, be compared to your new BMW. Go around them with a fine toothcomb and you will find faults. They all have them unless they are presented as concours! They all need ongoing love and care. They tend to leak oil in varying degrees. They may break down, play up or even present you with a mystery that takes some solving. But that is all part and parcel of classic car ownership. They are there to be loved and cherished like a family pet. They are our motoring heritage and should be treated as such. This old girl for example is now 51-years-old and she has travelled 109, 000 in her life. Do the maths and it's not a lot of driving! Great history to document the miles and clearly she has been kept up to the highest standards.

Driveability is superb and she has the feel of being able to go anywhere with comfort, power and ease!
