Kawasaki gpz 550
the gpz listed here is a 1 plus 1 owner or (one previous owner). the gentleman that owned the bike
purchased it and cherished it up until he passed away and it was passed on to his friend and
neighbour in order for him to help the family sensibly move a number of bikes on.
it is essentially and in every sense of the word a one owner bike, which is immaculate and has only
covered a mere 12, 671 miles. Indeed after the ones passing the bike was sorn with the dvla and has not been ridden since.
two nice gpz engraved keys, owners manual, workshop manual and service record book,
together with the original purchase receipt a handful of mots, and the v5.
the gpz that a good slice of the public might be familiar with is the 900r as that was the bike scientologist tom cruise rode of course in top gun, the gpz 550 would probably be the bike that enthusiasts most remember though and many of this group would be owners too. There are not too many bikes that change the course of motorcycling history, but the gpz 550 is certainly one of them.
the 550 was or is arguably the first kawasaki ninja, but what is an accepted fact is that the gpz 550 was a production motorcycle with lights and indicators made for the race track, and is perhaps the most significant reason as to why there are so few in existence. Those that were not raced on the track were raced on there road, and which further accounts for the bikes low rate of survival.
if you are reading this listing there is a good chance that you owned one in your youth, or certainly wanted one, and you will be fully aware of the motorcycles prowess. The gpz 550 was not only an immediate success on the race track and with the motorcycling public, but it is also an important motorcycle because it brought about the middleweight class, and ironically it appears that is where bikes are having to return.
there is a well known saying in sports that speed is not a great asset without control and it would appear
that the penny has finally dropped for manufacturers. Balance is also crucial for high performance in any
sport and in no more or less measures for motorcycling too. If a motorcycle and its rider can't put the power down without the potential of shaking each other apart then it is not a particularly effective motorcycle.
the opposite of course can be said for the gpz 550, because it is a motorcycle manufactured with high balance values, and that riders can take to like the proverbial duck to water!
there are numerous, good quality articles written in tribute to the bike and the journalists comments are echoed by readers who used to be owners. Unlike the other gpzs of which many different models are always available the 550 was a world beater and there are very few if any available in the world for sale. In addition the bike is a well engineered and very fine motorcycle which is beautifully made.
