The 328GTS needs little introduction, the successor to the 308 and, with the improved build quality, the first Ferrari to be offered with 24-month warranty! In its relatively short four-year production run 7000 cars left the factory of which 6000 were the targa bodied GTS. Launch price in the UK of £34, 750 undercut both the Lamborghini Jalpa and Porsche 911 Carrera Sport.
With the increased engine size came more power with European spec being 270 bhp and Swiss and US cars marginally lower at 255 and 260 bhp respectively. Performance was broadly similar with euro spec cars top speed at 163mph and standing kilometre in 25. 7 seconds against US cars top speed at 156mph and standing kilometre in 26. 4 seconds.
Our car was delivered new to Ferrari North America in its current Nero Ferrari with Pelle Nera leather in September 1987 just weeks before the famous Wall Street crash! Little is known of its US history until imported in 2016 by Jamiroquai keyboard player Toby Smith and the current owner, a well-known successful historic racing driver. Given its condition, the current owner bought out Toby’s share and kept it as a fun run-around. However current reduction of his collection has led him to decide (very much against his children’s wishes!) to offer the car for sale.
Since 2016 the car has been regularly serviced and looked after with no expense spared by Ferrari specialist, Omega Motorsport near Silverstone and the car was delivered to us from Omega having just had a full cambelt service making it ready for immediate use. In addition to the recent service, the car has a full set of new Pirelli tyres in January this year. Current mileage is shown at 41, 000 and the overall condition of the car would make this look justifiable.
The car is in superb condition looking pin-sharp in black and has benefitted from being driven regularly by the current owner.
