The Golf GTi is one of the all time everyman greats, with their iconic boxy shape and sporty drive good ones are highly sought after
The MK1 is of course the one to have but within that there are a number of options, what we have here is a Sportline Cabriolet which was a celebration model introduced before the MK3 came in and the Golf became a bit too big & heavy
Just 499 Sportline Cabriolets are thought to have been produced and as the final iteration of the MK1 GTi Cabriolet they retained the charm of early cars with no power steering or ABS but were given a full compliment of high spec options
The Sportline came in either Black or the Flash Red we have here, the Clipper body kit and electro-hydraulic roof had been standard on the GTi Cabriolet since 1991 however the Sportline has much more besides with limited edition black BBS wheels, bespoke dials with sporty orange needles, Recaro sports seats & heat-insulated tinted windscreen
The car we have here has been the subject of an extensive restoration after having spent 23 years with the same owner leaving her in completely immaculate condition retaining the pin sharp panel gaps one would hope to expect on a car such as this
The stereo was naturally updated for a more modern unit you can connect you phone to with new speakers too
Only OEM or approved reproduction parts were used for the resto and she certainly drives that way, The engine was re-bored & honed, had new pistons & rings, new crack case bearings & seals and the gearbox was also completely stripped and rebuilt whilst the differential was given the strengthening high tensile bolt upgrade
Of course all brackets, bushes, gaskets, fittings & major components have been either replaced or restored
The work was completed mid 2021 and since only nominal miles have been covered so she's as fresh as they come
Everything about her has been done to such a degree that she really is a cut above the rest with a finish that shows the attention to detail exercised during the restoration such as the perfect Sportline decals, powder coated windscreen wiper arms & even the steel bumpers and brackets behind the bodywork have been shot blasted and powder coated
Supplied new Scotts of Sloane Square & serviced by them several times since we are happy to now be offering her so close to where she first called home
