From being a quirky small car manufacturer who rallied cars successfully Saab suddenly became the first to mass-produce a turbocharged saloon car with the 99 Turbo in 1978.
It was an instant success and enthusiasts embraced it including myself who enjoyed many fun miles in my own Black Turbo and even followed the works rally cars during their successful exploits in the 1980s.
The 900 was a further development and by this stage, the engine and turbo application was more powerful and refined
