Sunbeam Talbot 80 (3 Position Drophead) Beautiful!
The new Sunbeam-Talbot 80 design was introduced during the summer of 1948 and built at the Ryton plant. The streamlined design with flowing front wings and integrated headlamps were reminiscent of the front of a fighter plane. The beautiful drophead “Streamstyle” coupe bodywork was entrusted to Thrupp & Maberly (coachbuilders for Rolls Royce) and numbers produced were small.
Milestone Classics are delighted to offer this beautiful drophead coupe that absolutely captures the style and elegance of post war motoring.
The large history folder indicates that our ‘80’ was purchased new in Bristol during 1950 by Dr Ramsey Gardener. In 1968 the car went into storage and finally emerged in 1995 when a full restoration was initiated and the car has been cherished ever since.
Since 1995 work has included:
· The body was stripped to bare metal, new panels/ sills fitted, and the car was repainted the original Embassy Black (1996 - £6, 000)
· New Hood and Frame (2003)
· Interior (2003)
· All chrome renewed – most recent 2018
· Engine rebuilt (1995 & 2019) & gear box (2002)
· Rear springs (1995) & Brakes – drums/ shoes/ linkage/ cylinders (1995 & 2003)

Today there is a real lustre to the Embassy Black paint complemented by oatmeal hood, leather interior and iconic dash/ radio that takes you straight back to the 1950’s. The older restoration provides just the right level of patina and the overall effect is simply stunning.
On the road the Sunbeam drives extremely well. The steering is light, and the four-speed column change is a delight to use. Cars from the 1950’s often feel cramped, but this car is the exception with large doors and lots of space for the six foot plus driver.
We have been genuinely impressed with how competently the car performs and the 1950’s styling simply never goes out of date – it is stunning. We expect this remarkable classic to find an appreciative new home very quickly.
