One of the three 'Factory' RHD cars. They were to have been the UK version of the DeLorean car for the British market.
They should have been displayed at the NEC International Car show (not Classic Car Show) on 19th October 1982.... Press day.
But John Z Delorean was arrested in the USA, by the FBI, on a trump up of drug charge. The factory's 'rescue deal', months in the makeing and ready to swing into action, directly after the NEC car show..... was cancelled..... The factory was closed immediately.
JZD was later found not guilty of the drugs charges because of "entrapment"..... but of course... it was all much too late.
The RHD 3 AXI cars were built in Oct. 81. . They were used as Demonstrators and factory 'pool cars' used by the senior managers. Possibly even JZD himself...
It took me many years to track this car down and another 20 more years before I finally managed to buy it in 2018. It had been unused all this time.
It only took a few days to get it up and running and a few weeks (of work) to overhaul the entire braking system.
Cleaning of the exterior and interior, only took a weekend and It's still in great and original condition.
I have not had the stainless 're-brushed'..... its respectable and original. Cars are only ORIGANAL once!
It's history..... following the factory closure, it along with 5 LHD cars were sold at the British Car Auctions in Farnbourgh on 25th Nov 1982
I have used the car very sparingly for the last few years, and I have exhibited in twice at the NEC and other local shows, I find my aging body has difficulty getting in and out of the car... so its time to find it a new home and for me buy something higher off the ground.
The car is running sweetly, but there are still a few little jobs need completing... the heating and ventilating system needs looking at and the central locking.... both often troublesome on the RHD cars. But it locks with the key and the fans work fine.
