This R129 SL500 is the definition of a well-kept car. Just two owners from new, the last 21 years. In the last owner’s tenure the car has always been kept in a heated garage and never taken out when raining or the roads are salted. It has been serviced according to schedule and any repairs required carried out straight away and all paperwork filed.
First registered in August 1996 by Westwood Garage of Blackburn, this SL500 was finished in Ruby Red metallic contrasted by Mushroom leather. It is equipped with adaptive damping, heated/ memory and driver’s orthopaedic seats and rear seats.
The last owner, a Mercedes enthusiast and club member, purchased the SL as an approved used car from Charles Sidney of Bradford in 2001 when the car had covered 39k miles and kept it until we recently acquired it. The mileage today stands at 109, 185 miles.
The car has all original books in the leather wallet. The service book contains 17 service records including the latest service that we are carrying out now.
Every MoT certificate, logbook and service bill is arranged in date order in its folder. Two remote keys and clear HPI certificate.
Thanks to regular but careful use this SL remains in outstanding and completely original condition. The only paintwork that we aware the car has ever had is to the front bumper to rectify some stone chips. The wheels still retain their original diamond-cut finish and are shod with matching Michelin tyres.
The hardtop is unmarked and the interior is exceptional, confirming how carefully this car has been treated.
The underside is also in exceptional condition with no corrosion.
A beautiful driving car. It feels as fresh and tight as the day it was made and the adaptive damping provides a cossetting ride.
Being a ’96, this SL is one of the desirable ’96-98 cars with the improved wiring, coil-on-plug ignition, 5-speed auto and improved climate control but still with the M119 engine.
All in all, this is such a lovely SL – a desirable 500 just out of long-term ownership, very original and in beautiful condition with an impeccable history.
