For sale is my 1994 Mazda Eunos 1. 8 manual. £400 ONO.
This is an MOT failure. It failed on rusted sills, as seen in the pictures.
The car does run and move, however, and I do this on a fortnightly basis to keep things from seizing. Starts every time no problem.
It also requires some other work in the form of repainting a replacement front left wing (see later), and some other general tidying-up pieces.
Reason for sale is owing to the MOT failure. Unfortunately I do not have the time to spend improving the car as it requires.
This is a Japanese import which I'm led to believe came to the UK in 2000. As it is the import it has A/ C and the limited slip diff. Also all mileage is in kilometers. Currently sat at 169, 330km, or just over 105k miles.
Buyer MUST collect as it is an MOT failure and is SORN. V5 is present and cash on collection preferred.
I bought the car in August 2018 for £2k. It had no service history at the time but ran and drove well, as it does now. I have kept a log of all receipts for parts and work since my ownership (please see below for the full list of works done).
Engine is good but with a little tappet noise at start-up and a slight chirp from the aux belt until up to temperature. Pulls well and was never pushed until up to temperature. Gearbox is also good, with a very 'snicky' action. A gearbox oil change, as well and gaitor change and turret oil change done in 2020 have really made this sharp. Running gear is good.
The bodywork does nees some attention. As you'll see from the pictures it requires a replacement front left wing panel - I have one for the car and this will be included in the sale, but it will need stripping down and painting. Otherwise the bodywork is fair. It had a replacement vinyl hood the month after I bought it, at the cost of £200.
The alloys are from a mk2 MX5 and are Continental Eco Contact 3s, all in good condition with 5mm of tread all around. I have the original mk1 'daisy' style alloys as well, which could be included in the sale if the offer is right. The 'daisy' wheels all have tyres with 5mm tread (2x Firenza tyres and 2x Uniroyal Rain Expert).
The interior is in good condition, with chrome roll-hoops and a wind deflector fitted too. The only obvious defect with the interior is a split across the top of the dash pad in front of the passenger. I have a replacement for this which is included in the sale.
Also included in the sale is a 'box of bits' such as a new air filter, new fuel filter, and various other trim pieces that I bought in anticipation of slowly rectifying the car.
During my ownership the car has had the following work:-
- Oil, oil filter, air filter change at purchase (August '18 at 158k km)
- New alternator belt fitted Feb '19
- Oil, oil filter, plugs and leads changed March '19 by myself (~162k km)
- New Bosch battery fitted March '19
- New headlight units (halogens) fitted and another oil and oil filter change in Aug '19 (~165k km)
- Gearbox and diff oil and power steering fluid changed Sept '19 (~166k km)
- New radiator, thermostat, water pump, full cam belt & kit, all seals, radiator cap and front crankshaft seal (as a precaution) done in Feb '20, along with an oil change, oil flush and front brake pads.
All oil has been Mobil 10w40 and used Mazda filters wherever possible.
The last item on the list was done owing to a persistent coolant leak which kept me busy during winter. Originally I suspected leaky coolant hoses, replacing one or two. However the leak persisted and it required a lot of work. A replacement radiator was fitted (this time with metal top and bottom instead of the plastic ones!) and I opted at the time to have all the associated items done as I suspected the water pump was possibly leaking too. I have receipts for the parts of this, but the labour was done as a favour by a local garage (all-in would have been around £700 worth of work).
I am open to offers for the car as whilst the car isn't perfect, the mechanicals are strong with plenty of life left in them. The sills need welding (hence the MOT failure) but there is a good car in there to be enjoyed by someone willing to rectify the issues.
Buyer MUST collect as it is an MOT failure and is SORN. V5 is present and cash on collection preferred.
Thank you.
