SUMMARY
Originally supplied by Mercedes-Benz of Huddersfield, this W203 C180K Elegance was with its first owner for almost 17 years, and was clearly very well looked after, as this is also probably one, if not the best, W203's I’ve come across, and is even superior to much lower mileage examples of the model I’ve had. It’s extremely rare for a car to arrive with me with nothing needing doing, but this one of those, and joins a very exclusive club I can tell you; I think this has happened less than ten times in the near 17 years I’ve been doing this. The level of care and attention this car has enjoyed would put many much more valuable classics to shame.
The condition of this car, both inside, outside and mechanically is amazing, everything works exactly as it should, and it drives, well, like a new W203. The gentleman I bought this car from said he bought this as his “forever car” By his own admission he was exacting, even verging on OCD about his vehicles and everything had to be perfect, so he bought the best example he could find, then proceeded to go through it with a fine tooth comb. As soon as he got the car to the standard he wanted, by chance he stumbled upon another W203, that had covered just 17K miles, so he bought that, with the slightly misguided assumption he could keep both. However after some serious soul searching, and probably due to some additional domestic pressure too, he realised one had to go, and reluctantly decided it had to be this one. As he really didn’t want the car to just go to just anyone, he thought it best to offer it to a marque specialist, who would appreciate it and had more chance of re-homing it properly. As I believe I was the first one he contacted, here it is. I certainly couldn’t pass up on such a unique example like this.
Now I know this is slightly more expensive than the "usual suspects" you’ll find on sites like Autotrader, Gumtree, eBay etc, but you’ll quickly realise as soon as you see it in the flesh, this car is many more times better than even the best of those, and I’m pretty sure that you couldn’t buy one of those, and bring it to the same standard of this car for the price I’m asking. With that in mind, this will clearly appeal to those who are able to fully appreciate real quality; this car has the look and feel (and smell)of a much younger vehicle, and has many more years use left in it if maintained correctly.
As to the W203 C-Class itself, as one of the most avid fans ever of the W201 190, and latterly its successor the W202 C-Class, I admit when it was launched back in 2001, I was less than enthusiastic about the W203, but like most Mercedes designs, time has been very kind indeed to the shape, and it actually looks better now, then it did back then. What’s also evident when you get a good example like this is that the DNA of its “Grandfather” the W201 190 and it’s “Father” the W202 C-Class , has been carried down, so you still get that feeling of big car quality, but in a compact, easy to live with, design, and still retains the same design ethos of the W201, in that its still looks and feels like a compact S-Class.
So in summary, probably one of the nicest W203’s out there, and one you could use every day, or just save for best. Like all Mercedes, it gives that special feeling that very few cars offer, it also goes extremely well, and is really very good to drive too.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have.
