Description
This 280SE was supplied new in London in 1972.
It is finished in Mercedes-Benz 542 dark red gloss paint with a black leather inter. The first owner kept the car from new until 2010. It was then acquired by the current owner/ vendor who kept the car in London for a few years more. They then moved to Morocco for four years, and took the car with them, enjoying it as a daily driver. When they returned from Morocco, they repatriated the Mercedes with them and I’ve kept it in regular use in London again since.
The car is still UK registered, and is correctly registered as a historic vehicle meaning it qualifies for free road tax and both MOT and ULEZ exemption.
Whilst this Mercedes does lack in paperwork history, there is thankfully an invoice from Erik Gorter Classics Ltd on 13/ 03/ 2021 to the tune of £11, 629. This work included an overhaul of the braking system, various chassis welding (including both in and outer sills and boot floor), a new exhaust system and a major service (including a gearbox service).
Today the car has covered 83, 000 miles and drives beautifully. It has proven incredibly reliable throughout the vendor’s tenure. Cosmetically, there are some dings and scratches here and there but on the whole, the car is presentable. The interior is in good order, not perfect, but the window and dash wood veneer trim has started to delaminate. Please be under no illusions, this is no show car (hence the price!), but it is a perfectly useable and presentable car that is ready for the road.
As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walkaround videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
