1989 Mercedes-Benz 300E
This outstanding W124 300E has covered just 41, 501 miles from new and remains in exceptional condition throughout.
This example is the, rarely seen today, first generation, identifiable by its grey bumpers and lack of lower half cladding, that was sold up until the Autumn of 1989. Of course Mercedes sold a tremendous amount of four-cylinder and diesel models but it was the smooth and powerful six-cylinder models that were the most desirable. The 300E at the time was the most powerful W124 available.
This 300E was supplied new by Alan Day on the Finchley Road to a Sheik. Finished in Astral Silver with optional navy blue velour it was very well specified with electric front seats, air conditioning, cruise control, outside temperature gauge, Becker Mexico stereo, headlamp wash wipe and 15-hole alloy wheels. The Sheik eventually passed the car on to his driver and it has been in collector ownership ever since. There have been four owners in total and we supplied the car to the last, and maintained it for the last two owners.
All books and manuals come with the car including the service book. There is also a folder of receipts for work carried out, most recently by ourselves and MB main dealers.
Last year we carried out a cylinder head overhaul and head gasket replacement along with a suspension overhaul (springs and dampers) to Sportline specification in preparation for a classic rally event in the Pyrenees this year, where the car performed without fault for over 1000 miles.
Having been always garaged and with such a low mileage this car is in exceptional condition throughout. The paintwork is superb, the wheels unmarked and wearing matching Michelin tyres all round. The car still wears its original ‘Alan Day’ dealer number plates, rear window sticker, boot badge and the tax disc holder is in the file.
The velour interior is similarly superb as the pictures show and retains its original stereo and ribbed mats. Whilst we have fitted a retrimmed Sportline steering wheel for the last owner, the original steering wheel is with the car and we can refit if preferred.
On the road this 300E is a delight. In top condition these cars are so smooth and refined with a decent turn of speed too. This car still retains a freshness of new even at 32 years old.
W124 saloons of this calibre are very hard to find these days, and this is particularly well-specified car with the most desirable 3-litre six.
