SUMMARY
Originally supplied by Mercedes-Benz, Birmingham Central, this lovely W203 C-Class is, if you know about cars, one of those vehicles you instinctively know is just so right. I've been involved with Mercedes vehicles for over 17 years now, and I have to say as soon I get behind the wheel of this W203, it seems to exude that feeling that it's been properly maintained and cared for. It also has that distinctive Mercedes "last forever" aura about it; an aura that seems to be conspicuous by its absence from the newer models.
I'm becoming quite a fan of the W203 C-Class of late; seemingly, like most Mercedes-Benz, and almost like a fine cheese or wine, it seems to get better with age. Also being among the last of the W203 model range, all the problems that afflicted the earlier cars, had been ironed out, and these late model cars are clearly very accomplished and refined, and are a pleasure to both own and drive.
This car, as you'd rightly expect drives like a dream, the M271 1. 8 Litre Supercharged engine gives very brisk, instant performance when you need it, but returns decent fuel consumption too, and is also fully compliant with E10 fuel too. Changes from the automatic transmission are both smooth and beautifully seamless; infact the gearbox is outstanding in its operation.
Also increasingly important to many buyers is this car is both ULEZ & CAZ compliant, which is important if you live in, or near one of the clean air zones that seem to be popping up everywhere.
As you can see from the photos, the car is in superb condition, and still retains that new "bright" look, which once gone is impossible to replace. With the exception of a few stone chips which have been carefully touched in, it's in fantastic condition, with none of the scabby rust sometimes associated with the earlier models, especially around the arches.
Mechanically, as with all properly maintained Mercedes, it's in superb order, and as they say on a well known auction site "there's no knocks and bangs" (I love that blanket statement!) It's also leak and smoke free; basically as they say in the TV commercials if Carlsberg did used Mercedes, this would be one of theirs. Having covered just 68K miles, it has an awful lot of service life left in it too, and to help it on its way and as an added precaution, I've just had a service carried out too, although technically it didn't need it.
So, in summary, a fantastic car for what is, these days, not a lot of money. I've been somewhat tempted to keep this one for myself as it does everything you ask of it; it's also a very safe vehicle, which looks the part, and equally wouldn't be out of place outside either the Ritz or McDonalds. I think cars like this make somewhat of a mockery of those who buy brand new vehicles costing many thousands of pounds and that will loose more than this car cost, as soon as they're driven out of the showroom. This will do exactly the same job, probably command more respect, but cost much, much less to achieve the same result; to me that's a no brainer!
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
