The one to have! Possibly one of the coolest trucks of the past 40 years, this recently restored F-150 Flareside is just fabulous and promotes the same reaction from all that see it. A big thumbs up. Super straight bodywork and nice paint with nothing to hide, the truck sits beautifully on Bullitt-style 5-spokes with nearly new Cooper Discoverer A/ T tyres. And it`s on the key having had a mechanical rebuild less than 4, 500 miles ago. Ready to show, work or play, this a great-looking and driving machine. Very impressive on all levels.
Introduced for the 1948 model year, the Ford F-Series was a range of full-size pickup trucks that remains in production today albeit now in it`s Fourteenth Generation. The Seventh Generation was launched in 1980 and marked the first real ground-up redesign of the truck in 15 years. An all-new chassis and straighter body lines were complimented by a wide choice of 6 and 8-cylinder powertrains and both automatic and manual options (both floor and 3-speed column shift). Ford offered the choice of either Styleside (a wider bed with covered arches) or Flareside (defined rear arches and narrower bed) from 1957 onwards and Chevrolet shortly followed for the 1958 model year with their own Stepside. Either way, these short-bed 2-box designed trucks had far more character than their straight-sided cousins and as a consequence are far more desirable to the collector today.
Our Flareside dates from 1982 and was imported into the UK in late 1983. It is a Big six model featuring a 4. 9 litre inline 6-cylinder engine mated to a floor-mounted 3-speed manual with Overdrive and as such has huge amounts of torque and a fair turn of speed! We know little of its early history but around 15 years ago was residing in Cheshire before moving to Warwickshire where it fell into the hands of an American truck enthusiast. Indeed, with many parts shipped over from the US, he was responsible for rebuilding the engine to the specification it is today. Around 5 years ago, the truck moved to Kent and whilst there was bodily restored and repainted before coming to Dorset around a year later. For the past 6 months, it has resided in Weymouth with a family devoted to American cars and trucks.
The photographs tell the story. This is one magnificent beast. Panel-work is superb and paint finish excellent with just light pitting to front and rear bumpers. All glass and trim are similarly good albeit the front would benefit from a new windscreen surround. Inside, the cab is very original and presentable with just a small tear to the base of the driver’s seat. Turn the key and the Big Six fires instantly into life. On the road, the ride is soft but with positive steering, encourages more and more confidence the more the truck is driven. I have been using it as a daily for the past 2 weeks and absolutely love it. Whether it`s taking furniture to the local auction house or going to the beach loaded up with kayaks, it has proved its worth ten times over and everybody smiles. It is just one of those vehicles.
The truck comes with sundry bills and receipts from 2007-2017, old MoT certificates from 2007 onwards and a current Certificate to April 2023.
A stunning example of an all-American icon ready to be enjoyed immediately.
